Do you remember my post about my wall of mirrors? Did you notice the walls?!? I am in LOVE with the new color and design. When I started planning out my bedroom, I knew I wanted to go dark and somewhat dramatic…dark walls and light furniture. I also wanted to add some texture to the walls, but didn’t want it too high of a contrast.
The solution was to use a stencil. I decided to get the Antico Allover Wall Pattern from Cutting Edge Stencils. I watched a few of their videos and got to work!
I got a clip-on level and it made the job go such quicker and easier. I was amazed at how fast I got a wall done!
NOW to clarify…I like imperfect! The more it was not uniform the better, for me. So, doing it quickly was good and gave me the desired effect that I wanted.
I used Valspar Signature Dove Gray in eggshell for the base coat, then stenciled with a custom color. For the custom color, I had them mix a small quart in satin a shade darker.
What do you think?
It took me a little time but I saved a ton compared to wall paper! (AND I can just paint over it when I want a change!)

I have been following Cutting Edge on FB for a while. I love them and can’t wait to use them in my home!!!

The ‘Chinese Ginkgo’ is lovely-I’m a great admirer of this ancient tree. Since I’m an advid gardner and nature lover, this would be perfect for my bedroom.
Love what you did! I just did something similar with flat and gloss with the Zagora stencil. I’m hooked now! I think I’d go for the birds if paradise damask stencil for my next project. It looks very similar to turn of the last century wallpaper patterns.

I love the simple elegance of the Chandelier Stencil! Beautiful!
It is so hard to pick just one. But being as I will be painting my son’s bathroom next, I am going to pick my favorite stencil for that project. 🙂 I would use the “Zulu Allover Stencil.” I imagine doing a robot shower curtain as such with it. 🙂

The Valspar Signature Dove Gray base coat with the custom stencil color sounds like a perfect balance between elegance and subtlety.
That stencil looks incredible! I’m a huge fan of the imperfect look too, it gives a room so much more character than a flat paint job. I tried a similar dark-on-light theme in my study last year and found that the texture really hides those little everyday scuffs. While I was waiting for my supplies to arrive, I had a bit of a delivery hiccup and spent a frantic afternoon searching for the roadie customer service phone number to track down my package. The Dove Gray base you chose is perfect, it keeps the drama from feeling too heavy.
