As part of our Thanksgiving meal this year, we had homemade applesauce. My sister-in-law and mother-in-law made it and BOY was it DELICIOUS! They gave me a run down of the ingredients, so when I got home I made my own version.
4 lb bag of Honey Crisp Apples
1 1/2 tsp. lemon juice
2 Tbs. honey
1/2 C Apple Cider
2 Tbs. cinnamon
3-4 Tbs. of butter
Slice and peel and the apples (approx. 8-9 apples) then put them in a roasting pan or dutch oven.
Add all the other ingredients in the pot and cover, then put it in the oven on 475 degrees for about 45 minutes.
Stir about half way through. The apples are done when they are soft.
Scoop out just the apples and either mash by hand or use a food processor to make it into a sauce.
(The leftover juice in the bottom of the pot is good drizzled over oatmeal! 😉 )
This recipe makes about 32 oz or 4 Cups and it tastes just like apple pie!! 🙂
I’m linking up to Thrifty Thursday!
