IMPORTANT: Make sure you hang your curtains before your artwork!!! If you decide your space needs curtains, they will fill up some of the visual areas in the room and you will need fewer things…such as artwork.
If you decide to go with something other than curtains, there are a ton of different options to choose from for your window treatment. I won’t go into detail about every single option, but this article does a great job of explaining them ALL (HERE).
Tip: Choose the thickness of your fabric based on the amount of light you want in the space — a thick fabric lets less light through than an ultra-sheer fabric.
You can use scale and proportion to play tricks on your eyes. Choose longer curtains and hang them near the ceiling rather than just above the window trim. This gives the illusion of height and improves the proportion of small windows, a small room, or a low ceiling.
Download the Curtain Handout to determine what size curtains you should purchase. This handout will also help aid you in the hanging process.
